ABOUT
Naked Larder came about because of the real need for us to change our shopping habits. We seek to find more sustainable ways to shop. Practices that reduce the huge volumes of packaging, in particular plastic, created throughout the world today. We feel that reducing the use of all forms of packaging, rather than recycling, is the key element. Recycling is energy-intensive and much of the waste does still end up in landfill, the oceans, being incinerated or shipped to less developed countries which just don't have the infrastructure to deal with it. Plastic is particularly difficult to recycle.
But just substituting plastic for other forms of packaging will create other environmental problems and does nothing to reduce our reliance on using the earth's precious and dwindling resources to make items that are then only used once.
My name is Rebecca and I run Naked Larder Sidmouth. For many years I have been extremely concerned and frustrated by the amount of plastic waste my family alone seems to produce every week, even though I consciously avoid buying produce in plastic where possible. I've always loved the idea of Zero Waste shops, but have found them to be rather expensive and often inaccessible so I've been looking for an alternative solution and was excited to come across the unique Naked Larder set-up.
Having worked in travel for most of my career I've longed to invest my time and energy into something more meaningful, something that could make a difference not only to my family but to the local community. Being able to offer my local community an alternative way to shop, reduce waste and promote reuse means so much to me. I am hoping Naked Larder Sidmouth will not only change local shopping habits but will also help to build a like-minded community for people who are passionate about our planet and want to join the fight against unnecessary plastic waste.
